VENTURE is a 1924 G.L. Watson designed ketch ,built by J.S. White and sons, Cowes, England. Her construction is heavy, 2 to 2 1/2 inch larch below the waterline and 2 inch mahogany above, secured with copper and bronze, to 6 by 6 inch sawn oak frames on 12 inch centers with 2x2 inch steam bent oak inbetween. Her decks are teak, spars are spruce and her ballast is lead. Original iron floors have been replaced with cast bronze. There is a 55hp Yannmar diesel amidships with approximately 250 hours.

VENTURE spent most of her life in Europe and by one account spent many seasons on the Clyde. In the late 60's she was converted to a tall Marconi rig based on plans previously draw by the G.L. Watson company. A large "dog house" was also installed at that time. At some point in the 70's she was sold to someone in the states and cruised extensively on the east coast. When we purchased her she was in need of complete restoration. We replaced the floors with bronze and removed any remaining iron. A new stem and horn timber were installed, the large dog house removed, any questionable planking replaced, decks sanded and a new bowsprit made. All her wiring and plumbing were redone and her water and fuel tanks replaced. My hope was to bring her back to her original configuration as a gaff ketch and to that end have purchased material for spars. She needs to have her rudder replaced, her interior(most of which is original) reinstalled and needs to be rerigged. Her masts have been completely refinished and a new companion hatch fabricated.
